Protest: Enugu, Anambra calm as Igbo youths shun protest

The ongoing nationwide hunger protest is calm in some eastern states, as Anambra, Enugu is currently calm and peaceful at the moment. Youths spoken to have said hunger is not their problem.

One driver, Aniette Friday, who was speaking to reporters from Enugu, expressed his concerns saying, ‘In Igbo land, we don’t have hunger, or is the protest our business, it is between Yoruba and Hausa people, let them continue their protest”

Meanwhile, some youths also expressed their concern about the ongoing nationwide protest, currently happening in some parts of the country. To him he feels the people are scared to express their disatisafrion, against the current administration.

“As you can see, nobody is here to protest, people are not even coming out to protest, everyone is currently going about their normal activities, people are scared, it’s only on social media that we can male noise, well that means President Bola Tinubu is doing well” he said.

Meanwhile, another state that is currently not taking part in the #endbadgovernance protest, is Kogi state. Guardian checks across Lokoja, the state capital, shows that most of the strategic areas in Lokoja were deserted.

Flashpoints areas such as Ganaja junction, government house road, Paparanda, the Obasanjo Square and Nataco were barricaded by security agencies comprising the Nigeria Police force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), local Vigilantes, Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC)

It was observed that most of the shops in Lokoja were under lock and key over fear of being attacked by protesters in the State, given their experiences during the EndSars protest.

As at the time of filing this report, Motorists, Commercial motorcyclists and tricycle riders were going about with their daily activities. Youths and other stakeholders have earlier dissociated themselves from the planned nationwide strike.

The Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo had earlier said that there would be no protest in Kogi State because of his inclusive governance by meeting the aspirations of the youths, women, and other residents in the state.
