The attention of the Management of Guardian Newspapers Limited (‘The Guardian ’) has been drawn to the unauthorised use of The Guardian Logo by a self-styled “Nigeria’s most authoritative Newspaper” named Abuja Guardian on the front page of its Tuesday, July 21, 2026, Vol. 20 No. 7021 edition (‘subject publication’), as circulated on Facebook and other social media platforms.

Independent findings suggest that the paper is not registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission, and its website, www.abujaguardian.com, is currently not functional.

The General Public is hereby notified that the Abuja Guardian is not an affiliate, associate, partner, or subsidiary of The Guardian. Accordingly, its publications do not represent or reflect the official position of The Guardian. There is no relationship or connection between the two entities whatsoever.

The Guardian reserves exclusive ownership in and over its intellectual properties, and at no time did it grant any license or permission to Abuja Guardian to use its logo. Consequently, the inclusion of The Guardian logo in the subject publication is unauthorised, unlawful, and constitutes a trademark infringement.

We strongly believe the logo was deliberately used to create the impression that The Guardian is the publisher of Abuja Guardian. The name similarity and use of our logo are designed to parody The Guardian Newspaper or to imply an association or affiliation between the two papers, which is entirely false. The surrounding circumstances suggest an attempt by desperate individual(s) to leverage The Guardian’s hard-earned reputation and integrity for personal or political gains.

We unequivocally state that the action of Abuja Guardian, with specific reference to the unauthorised use of our logo, is misleading, deceptive, and capable of causing significant reputational and economic damage to our brand. Therefore, it is essential to reiterate that The Guardian is not involved in the affairs or undertakings of Abuja Guardian in any way whatsoever.

The Guardian disassociates itself, officers, directors, affiliates, partners, subsidiaries, and associates from the activities of Abuja Guardian.  The staff, officers, and directors of Abuja Guardian (if any) are not representatives of The Guardian.

Notice is hereby given to the publisher/editor of Abuja Guardian to remove The Guardian logo from the subject publication and any other publications bearing The Guardian logo. The publisher/editor is strongly warned to cease and desist from further use and insertion of The Guardian logo in subsequent publications.

The General Public is hereby advised to take note of this development as The Guardian will not be liable to any third party for any loss, special, direct, indirect, consequential, or incidental damages or any damages whatsoever, whether in an action of contract, negligence, or other tort, and/or any other court action arising out of any dealing with, or in connection with, Abuja Guardian.

The Guardian remains an independent newspaper with no allegiance to any political party, ethnic community, religious organisations, or any other interest group. We are committed to upholding the highest standards of professional ethics, integrity, and accountability in journalism and will not hesitate to take all necessary legal and institutional actions to protect and defend the rights and interests of our company against any infringement.
