The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has announced plans for its upcoming ‘Light Up Lagos’ outreach, aimed at sensitising youths on the dangers of drug abuse while fostering spiritual transformation and societal impact.

Assistant General Overseer of the church, Johnson Odesola, who spoke on the initiative, emphasised that the programme seeks to win souls and address pressing societal issues.

The event, scheduled to hold on Saturday, February 22, 2025, will feature a range of activities, including anti-drug abuse awareness campaigns, secondary school intervention programmes, and outreach to correctional centres.

“As part of the correctional outreach, the church has been involved in paying fines for inmates, contributing to the decongestion of prison facilities, and providing legal assistance for those in need. It’s not just about praying for them; it depends on their situation. Some are rounding off their jail terms and need support to reintegrate into the society,” Odesola said.

Other planned initiatives, according to him, include free digital skills training for 350,000 youths across Africa, small and medium-scale enterprises (SME) empowerment programmes to drive economic growth, and a medical outreach expected to provide free healthcare services to 5,000 people.

Vice Chairman of Reach for Christ, Emmanuel Emefienim, reiterated the church’s commitment to tackling drug abuse among youths, stating that the RCCG has established structures to provide counselling and rehabilitation.

Also, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee of Light up Lagos, Dele Jaiyeola, noted the church’s role in keeping young people engaged in meaningful activities.
