Afrobeats sensation, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has donated the sum of N105 million as thanksgiving to the Christ Embassy Church located on Ekenwan road in Benin.

The donation covers 40 million for church infrastructure, N20 million for Rhapsody of Reality, N25 million to Teen Church and N20 million to support widows in the church.

Announcing the donation in the church yesterday, he said: “I am not here to give myself for any form of accolades or glory but I am here to give God the glory. I feel like it is important to give back because the church has embraced and prayed for me and being consistent with my spirit.”

Rema, who was in Benin for his first ever homecoming concert held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, on Saturday night, recalled how the church came to their aid when his father died.

According to him, “when I was eight-year-old when I was lost my dad, we felt very lost, abandoned and all that we had was taken from us and we felt very lonely. At that time, Pastors Joy and Thomas opened a shop for my mother which was what she managed to care of us.”

Meanwhile, at the homecoming event, the governor of the state, Godwin Obaseki, had earlier named the 6,000-capacity Edo Arena in his name.

He had said that the arena, when completed, will host a wide range of events- from concerts and national conferences to symposiums and other large gatherings, attracting more visitors to the state to experience the state’s rich culture.
