Reps increase President’s N180b virement to N208b
The House of Representatives has increased the N180 billion request of President Muhammadu Buhari for virement in this year’s budget to N208. 821 billion.
Upon receipt of the request from the president, the House last week mandated its Committee on Appropriations headed by Mustapha Bala Dawaki (APC, Kano) to consider the proposal and report back.
Explaining their rationale, the committee said that after meeting with critical stakeholders, members observed areas of critical needs, which prompted the upward review of the president’s request.
Some of the items that were approved by the committee are: N1.2 billion for Contingency, N19. 792 billion for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, N25 billion for payments of local contractors and N900million, which were not contained in the President to the legislature.
The breakdown of the House virement report showed that Recurrent Expenditure for Public Service Wage Adjustment (PSWA) under Service Wide Vote would take N71, 800, 215, 270.00; Contingency, N1.2billion; Margin for Increase in Cost (MIC), N2billion and Ministry of Interior Cadet Feeding in Police Academy, Wudil, Kano, N932.4 million.
Other items under the Service Wide Vote are: Amnesty Programme, N35billion; Internal Operations of the Armed Forces, N5, 205, 930, 270 billion; Operation Lafiya Dole, N13, 933, 093, 000 billion; NYSC scheme under Sports and Youth Development, N19, 792, 018, 400 billion while Foreign Missions would take N16, 349, 647, 078 billion, among others.
