Residents of Awo-Omamma and surrounding communities in Imo State have commended the state government and the Heartland Hospitals Management Corporation (HHMC) over what they described as improvements in healthcare services at the Mother and Child Hospital in Awo-Omamma.
The specialist healthcare facility, located within the Awo-Omamma General Hospital in Oru East Local Government Area, has reportedly recorded increased patronage as more residents seek medical attention at the centre.
Established as a 100-bed facility focused on maternal and child healthcare, the hospital provides services for pregnant women, nursing mothers, newborns and children. It is also expected to support efforts aimed at reducing maternal and infant mortality in the state.
Some patients and residents who visited the facility expressed satisfaction with the services available, citing the presence of modern medical equipment and improved access to specialised care as encouraging developments.
The hospital is equipped with operating theatres, intensive care units, laboratories, diagnostic and scanning facilities, consultation rooms, emergency response equipment and modern wards designed to cater to maternal and paediatric cases.
Health practitioners familiar with the facility attributed the increased utilisation to ongoing efforts by the Heartland Hospitals Management Corporation to strengthen healthcare delivery through improved infrastructure, deployment of medical equipment and support for healthcare personnel across public health institutions in the state.
Residents who spoke on the development praised Governor Hope Uzodinma’s administration for investments in healthcare infrastructure, noting that facilities such as the Mother and Child Hospital have helped bring specialised medical services closer to communities outside the state capital.
They also acknowledged the role of the HHMC in the management of the hospital, expressing optimism that sustained support for the facility would contribute to improved health outcomes for women, children and families in Oru East and neighbouring communities.
The Mother and Child Hospital forms part of the state’s broader efforts to improve access to quality healthcare and strengthen public health services across Imo State.
