Rise against killings, violence against women, girls, FAME Foundation tells Nigerians
FAME Foundation has called on well-meaning Nigerians to rise against killings and all forms of violence against women and girls across the country.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday in Abuja, the Executive Director of FAME Foundation, Arabirin Aderonke Atoyebi, said that gender-based violence is not just a personal or family issue but a societal crisis that affects communities and nations.
She insisted that Nigerians cannot afford to remain silent, complacent, or divided in the ongoing efforts to tackle this menace.
The rights activist noted that this year’s theme, ‘Towards Beijing +30: UNiTE to End Violence Against Women and Girls,’ underscores the urgency of collective action to create a safer and more equitable world.
She stated that FAME Foundation remains steadfast in its commitment to raising awareness, providing education, and promoting community engagement on the issue.
Atoyebi explained that the Foundation’s resolve to launch the Femicide Tracker on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women is a step toward achieving this goal.
“Today, I am proud to announce the launch of our Femicide Tracker, an important tool that allows for the reporting and documentation of femicide cases. This tool will help ensure that no case goes unnoticed, no story is silenced, and that we, as a society, can work toward justice and accountability for victims and their families,” she noted.

“This tracker is available on our website, www.famefoundationwg.org. By utilizing this tool, we aim to spotlight this pressing issue and mobilize action against the rising trend of femicide. I encourage you all to visit the website, engage with the tracker, and share it widely. Together, we can shed light on these tragedies and work toward a future where such violence is eradicated.”
She further explained that this year’s activities are designed to amplify awareness, empower individuals, and engage communities. Over the next 16 days, the Foundation will host various initiatives, including online campaigns, podcasts addressing critical aspects of gender-based violence, community outreach at IDP camps, panel discussions, social media advocacy, and conversations that challenge harmful norms.
“These initiatives aim to inspire action and bring this issue to the forefront of public discourse,” she added.
The Executive Director also noted the Foundation’s hashtag campaign, #HereForHer, as a rallying call for everyone to stand united against gender-based violence in the country.
