Rivers court sentences man to death by hanging for armed robbery

Justice Sika Henry-Aprioku of a  Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has convicted and sentenced a man identified as Promise Thompson to death by hanging for armed robbery.

Also, Thompson got 14 years for the offence of kidnap and 10 years for child stealing.

Justice Sika Henry-Aprioku also convicted and sentenced a couple, Mrs. Queen Chisom -Lucky to seven years, while her husband, Mr. Lucky was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for child stealing.

In his judgment on three counts of child stealing, kidnap, and armed robbery, the judge said evidence presented to the court proved that Promise Thompson, who is the first defendant in the matter and his gang went to Eagle Cement area of Trans-Kalabari road in Rumuolumeni to rob one Chidiebere Ogbogu.

The trial Judge said the convict and one Beatrice Ogunka, who absconded after she was granted bail by the police were responsible for shooting the left arm of Ogbogu on October 25, 2018, and thereafter stealing his five-year-old child identified,  as Chigoziri Ogbogu.

Justice Henry-Aprioku said evidence by the prosecution proved that Thompson took the boy to Urantta junction in Aba,  Abia State and sold him to his syndicate, who  sold the same boy to another syndicate.

However, the five-year-old boy was rescued from an orphanage home after five months.
