Rivers House elects Speaker, deputy as Fubara proclaims 10th Assembly

Lawmaker representing Obio/Apkor Constituency 1, of Rivers State, Martin Amaewhule, and his Gokana Constituency counterpart, Dumle Mao, have been elected Speaker and Deputy Speaker, respectively, to pilot affairs of the 10th state Assembly for the next four years.

Lawmaker representing Obio/Apkor Constituency 1, of Rivers State, Martin Amaewhule, and his Gokana Constituency counterpart, Dumle Mao, have been elected Speaker and Deputy Speaker, respectively, to pilot affairs of the 10th state Assembly for the next four years.

Amaewhule, who was the leader of the Ninth state Assembly, was elected, yesterday, after the 10th Assembly was proclaimed by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, through nomination by a lawmaker representing Okrika Constituency, Linda Somiari Stalwart, and seconded by Major Jack of Akuku-Toru Constituency.

While speaking after taking oath of office, the new Speaker promised a top class assembly that would legislate laws that will stand the taste of time.

He also announced that the 10th Assembly would be a unifying factor, assuring that their actions would be in the interest of the state.

Amaewhule, however, thanked the governor for proclaiming the assembly.

All members present unanimously elected the new Speaker, who is in his fourth term, and the house adjured sitting until tomorrow.
