Rivers monarchs task IGP on harassment, arrest
Monarchs in Rundele clan of Emohua Local Council of Rivers State have called on the Acting Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, to call his men to order and end the “unwarranted harassment and arrest of royal fathers over false petitions by one Nyeche Wojenkwe otherwise known as Eze Great Ogbuagwu Owhor.”
The paramount rulers and chiefs from the five communities of the clan made the call yesterday in Port Harcourt.
The traditional ruler of Mgbuolua community, Eze Gideon Omodu, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, appealed to the force to accord Rundele monarchs their due respect.
Omodu explained that Owhor had written severally against traditional rulers and prominent sons of the community, where he accused of allegedly abetting crime and other illegal activities in the area.
He said the monarchs, in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s call for traditional rulers to contribute to the maintenance of peace and security in the country, have sacrificed a lot to maintain calm in their domains.
