Rivers PDP suspends Secondus as national chairman
Ward five of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ikuru town, Andoni Council of Rivers State, has suspended the National Chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus.
Secondus, who is a prominent politician from Andoni, was the former chairman and former National Organising Secretary of the party in the state.
Ward Chairman of the party, George Christopher, announced Secondus’ suspension at the party’s extraordinary meeting in Ikuru town, saying 11 of the 17 executive members endorsed the suspension.
Christopher said Secondus had not attracted development to the area in spite of his exalted political profile and inability to manage the affairs of the party.
His words: “The Ward 5 executive of the PDP in Ikuru town on August 31, 2021, discussed issues affecting the party. The ward executive suspended Secondus after a duly constituted meeting convened by the Secretary on the instructions of the Chairman in accordance with the party’s constitution.”
“The party at the Ward further reaffirm his suspension and thank the party at the local government and state level for carrying out the suspension.”
Also speaking, former Chairman of Andoni Council and Chairman, Disciplinary Committee in the ward, Benson Alpheous, noted that Secondus was suspended for disobeying the party’s decision to step down as National Chairman.
“Until further notice, Secondus remains suspended. For now, until you hear from us again, Secondus remain suspended,” he added.
Efforts to contact the state Chairman of the PDP, Desmond Akawor, for his reaction on the matter were unsuccessful, as he neither answered calls made to his mobile telephone nor replied to a text message sent to him at the time of filing this report.
