Rotaract club rehabilitates classroom, donates furniture in Ifako

In alignment with Rotary International’s thematic focus on Basic Education and Literacy for September, the Rotaract Club of Gbagada, District 9112, has rehabilitated a classroom and donated custom learning furniture to Ifako Nursery and Primary School, Gbagada, Lagos State.

The project, which was supported by entrepreneur and philanthropist, Basheer Tosin Ashafa, involved complete wall refurbishment, educational mural paintings, including alphabets, shapes, and career illustrations, and the provision of new tables and chairs designed to seat 18 pupils.

Speaking during the commissioning, the 41st President of the Rotaract Club of Gbagada, Rtn. Moyosore Badejo, highlighted his personal connection to the community and emphasised the necessity of creating a conducive foundation for early childhood education.

He said: “Growing up in this community, I recognised that not everyone is born with a silver spoon. When we first came, this was an empty classroom. We decided to renovate and equip it so these young learners are motivated and focused on education right from their early years. Sustainable impact does not always require millions, even modest, intentional projects can reshape a child’s future.”

“Every September, our clubs carry out Basic Education and Literacy projects to create lasting impact. The district trains clubs to evaluate community needs so that intervention projects are genuinely useful. Upgrading this classroom directly enhances learning and puts smiles on the children’s faces,” Ekerin said.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of the school management, the Headteacher, Emodi Abimbola, noted that the upgraded facility would stimulate pupils’ interest in learning and improve attendance.
