Rotary Club of Lagos West installs Da-Silva as 36th president


It was a gathering of people with high spirits at the second coming of Rotarian Albert Da-Silva during his investiture as the 36th president of the Rotary Club of Lagos West, which took place at Villa Park Hotel & Suites, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos.

The event saw the club launching a book on its 35 years of service to humanity.

Reviewer of the book, Past District Governor, Adeniji Raji, described the book as a detailed achievement of the club, which includes when Rotary International started, when it came to Nigeria as well as the history of Rotary Club of Lagos West.

He challenged other Rotary clubs to emulate the initiative by documenting their humanitarian services for posterity.

The District Governor, Rotary International, District 9110, comprising Lagos and Ogun states, Rotn. Kola Shodipo, described Da-Silva as an active Rotarian who would continue to inspire members of his club to continue to serve humanity just as he commended the club for the book launched.

In his acceptance speech, Da-Silva disclosed some of the projects his administration has carried out during the first quarter of the Rotary year, which began in July, to include donation of neonatal kits to mothers at Amuwo Odofin Primary Health Centre; commissioning of a block of four toilets with standard bore-hole and an overhead water storage tank at Kuje Senior Secondary school, Agboju; empowerment of women with cash in small-scale businesses; Four-Way Test essay competition among secondary schools pupils among others.

He listed projects in view to include immunization of kids against polio, de-worming of children between ages two to 16 and the star project of donating incubator and other hospital equipment to Maternal and Child Care Centre in Festac.

At the event, three new members were inducted, five persons were awarded for their meritorious service while Christhill College, Amufo Odofin received its prize award for coming first in the school competition organized by the club.
