Rotary Clubs of Canal Estate, Wyndham Harbour donate educational materials to schools

The Rotary Club of Canal Estate, Nigeria, and Rotary Club of Wyndham Harbour, Australia, collaborated to donate essential educational materials to students of Okota Junior High School and Ajumoni Junior Grammar School in Lagos State, leaving joy on their faces.

The event, held on October 3, 2024 at Okota, Lagos, underscored the Rotary mission of fostering community development through education.

The President of the Rotary Club of Wyndham Harbour, Rtn. Mamode Osikoya, expressed her deep personal connection to the initiative, noting that the donation took place in the community where she grew up.

She explained that education is a powerful tool for change, and through this initiative, the club aims to provide essential learning resources.

“By working together, we can make a meaningful impact and empower individuals with the skills they need for a brighter future,” she said.

The partnership highlights Rotary’s guiding principle, “Service Above Self,” and demonstrates the collective strength of Rotary’s global network to foster positive and sustainable change.

The President of the Rotary Club of Canal Estate, Rtn. Joseph Ugwu, commended the students for their impressive performances in previous Spelling Bee Competitions organised by his club.

He said this year, the club shifted focus to delivering tangible support by donating school books and writing materials to enhance basic education and literacy in the schools.

Ugwu said the collaboration between the two Rotary Clubs exemplifies the spirit of unity and shared responsibility in addressing global challenges.

“It is hoped that this gesture will leave a lasting impact on the students and contribute to their academic success and personal growth,” he said

The event featured Rtn. (AG) Alex Ajibo, a chartered accountant and Rtn (PP) Gerald Iwosha, a farmer, as the guest speakers who emphasised the value of education and charged the students to be good ambassadors of their schools and communities.
