The duo of Muritala Desmond, 9, basic 4 pupil and Taiwo Ewaoluwa, 11 who represented their school, Salem Baptist International in the 4th edition of Primary Schools Bible Competition (PSBC) organised by the Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) shot their school to the top and became winner of the competition at the grand finale that took place at Salvation Army premises, Onipanu, Lagos.
Seventeen primary schools from different parts of Lagos participated in the programme at the preliminary stage while only six qualified for the grand finale out of which emerged the winner. Graine Royal School was the runner up while Angles on Mission came third.
The General Secretary, BSN, Pastor Samuel Sanusi who was represented at the event by the Production and Programmes Manager, Mrs. Grace Benjamin, premised the annual event on one of the BSN’s goals to help children imbibe godly values and expand their horizons in Bible knowledge.
“The competition helps the children to open the Bible, study and interact with the Word of God so as to shape their life at home, in the school and within the society.
“We want our children with the aid of this type of competition to revive Godly virtues because, if you look all around us, there is so much moral decadence. We are catching these ones young so that they can be familiar with the Word of God and know what God wants them to do in life and live according to the will of God which will go a long way to making the society a better place,” he said.
Sanusi called on parents to boost the zeal of their children to be acquainted with the Word of God

According to him, this step becomes imperative because as they are reading, they are growing in the things of God, adding that their knowledge should not be limited to academics because they can be brilliant and not morally sound.
He also seized the occasion to call on individuals, Churches and corporate bodies to sponsor the programme as their contribution to have a godly society.
winners, Master Desmond and Miss Ewaoluwa, who represented their school said they were happy to take first position and thanked the organisers for providing the platform to read, study and understand the Bible with the help of their teacher.
Desmond, though from muslim family displayed brilliantly during the competition, answered all the questions and spellings correctly alongside his teammate, Ewaoluwa.
According to him, “the Bible teaches me how to obey God and be an obedient child.”
