A suspected water equipment vandal has been buried alive by sand while allegedly vandalising and looting water equipment owned by Imo State Water and Sewerage Corporation (ISWSC), at Owerri -Ebiri Waterworks Station, Orlu.

Communications Desk Officer of the corporation, Christopher Ononukwe, who confirmed the incident in a statement, yesterday, said the deceased was declared missing days before his body was found around the equipment and materials, including armoured cables at the station.

Ononukwe said an investigation carried out by the corporation indicated that the suspect had allegedly been vandalising the equipment in the past.

“We have received a verifiable report that one of those who had been vandalising and looting ISWSC equipment at Owerre-Ebiri Waterworks Station, Orlu, was found dead on Tuesday, May 2, 2023.

“He was trapped by the collapsed sand in the process of vandalising and cutting the armoured cables.

“The deceased said to be well-known in Ndimbara Owerre-Ebiri Community, Orlu Local Council, was believed to have been missing for some days until he was found dead.

“The incident has been reported to the police for further investigations, notwithstanding,” he added.
