Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has congratulated Dr. Oluwafemi Adekoya, the immediate Business Editor of The Guardian, on his appointment as the Editor of the newspaper.

The governor also congratulated the company’s Head of Finance, Mrs. Patience Ilesanmi, for her elevation to the position of Chief Financial and Operating Officer.

He described Adekoya and Ilesanmi’s appointments as deserving, considering their experience, commitment and long years of service in Guardian Newspapers Limited.

Sanwo-Olu, in a statement, yesterday, said the appointment of Adekoya is an inspiration to young journalists that they can get to the top position, if they are faithful and committed.

He said: “The appointment of Dr. Oluwafemi Adekoya as Editor of The Guardian is an inspiration to young journalists, especially members of staff of Guardian Newspapers Limited, that they can get to the top of their career in the company.

“Dr. Adekoya’s appointment is thoroughly deserving having proved his mettle in journalism profession and I do not have any doubt in my mind that the cap fits him. He is a seasoned journalist and media manager with a proven track record of excellence in journalism, especially in business reporting.

“I want to urge Dr. Adekoya to bring his wealth of experience to bear in strengthening the journalism profession and also be a good gatekeeper against fake news, which is not good for our country. He should also see his new appointment as a crucial assignment for the media, especially The Guardian, to be more circumspect and developmental in playing its role as the watchdog of society.

“I also congratulate Mrs. Patience Ilesanmi on her new appointment as the Chief Finance and Operating Officer. I urge her to use her office for the growth and development of Guardian Newspapers Limited.”

ALSO, management and staff of Cadbury Nigeria Plc., yesterday, congratulated Adekoya on his appointment as Editor of The Guardian, the flagship of journalism in the country.

In a statement signed by its Head, Corporate and Government Affairs, West Africa, Frederick Mordi, the firm stated: “This elevation attests to your exceptional track record of achievements in the last 20 years in The Guardian.

“We have closely followed your career trajectory across various beats, including energy, manufacturing, and political economy and academic odyssey that has culminated in a Ph.D. in media economy and marketing communications, obtained from the University of Ibadan.”

“We have no doubt that you will use your theoretical knowledge and practical experience to further improve on the quality of news reporting that The Guardian is known for. It is our hope that you will see this well-deserved promotion as a challenge to continue to raise the bar. We wish you success in your new role.
