Sanwo-Olu promises to build affordable houses for Lagosians

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, yesterday, reiterated his administration’s commitment to building affordable houses across the state for Lagosians. He stated this at the commissioning of Bayview Estate, Ikate-Elegushi, Lekki, Lagos.

The governor said before the end of the year and first quarter of next year, another set of housing estates would be commissioned in Ibese, Ikorodu, Agbowa, Anthony, Sangotedo, and Epe.

Sanwo-Olu, who also named a block of the project after a Grade Level 15 worker of the Lagos State Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC), the late Wakilu Hamzat that died in the early hours of yesterday before the commissioning, promised that the state government would sponsor the deceased’s children education through scholarship.

MEANWHILE, the state government has begun equipping one million youths with cyber security and other digital skills necessary for development.

Special Adviser to Governor Sanwo-Olu on Education, Tokunbo Wahab, who disclosed this while conducting journalists round various digital skills centres, said the initiative was aimed at producing more tech-savvy Lagosians.

The special adviser added that the training was the second phase of the three designed to build a system that would ensure that youths do not need to wait for employment after their education, but to become employers of labour, as well as solution providers.

He hinted that plans were afoot to ensure different agencies and firms engage anyone certified under the programme in the state.

Similarly, the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) has said it plans to enrol three million residents into the state health insurance scheme in the next one year.

General Manager, LASHMA, Dr. Emmanuala Zamba, disclosed this, yesterday, at a briefing to announce Ilera Eko grassroots sensitisation and enrolment drive across the 20 local councils in the state.

Special Adviser, Office of Civic Engagement, Aderemi Adebowale, said that as health remains on the priority list of every government at all levels globally, Lagos could not be an exception.
