Scores feared dead as military, terrorists duel in Kaduna community

There was a fierce gun battle, yesterday, between suspected terrorists and the military in Zangon Kataf, Southern Kaduna axis of the state, leaving scores reportedly dead.

There was a fierce gun battle, yesterday, between suspected terrorists and the military in Zangon Kataf, Southern Kaduna axis of the state, leaving scores reportedly dead.

The duel was ongoing as of the time of filing this report.

Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, in a statement, explained that the military had informed the state government of an attack in Runji village, Zangon Kataf Council, in which several lives were lost on Saturday night.

He said: “The preliminary report further informed the government that the attack also left some residents injured and an unspecified number of houses burnt.

“Troops had a fierce encounter with the attackers and are still in the general area.

“While waiting for a detailed report, Governor Nasir el-Rufai, who received the preliminary report in the early hours of Sunday (yesterday), has condemned the killings as unacceptable and unjustifiable.

“The governor condoled with the families that lost their loved ones and prayed for the repose of the victims’ souls. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

“The Kaduna State government will update the public on the incident, as soon as detailed reports are received from security agencies.”

Attacks by suspected terrorists on communities in Southern Kaduna of recent, have raised serious concerns among the authorities and the people.

While the military and other security operatives are trying to be on top of the situation, the insurgents have continued to change location and inflicted more pains on the rural population, who were no longer safe in their ancestral homes.
