Scores of PDP supporters prostest, urge INEC to remain apolitical

Scores of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) supporters have taken to the street of Port Harcourt to defend their votes, insisting that the electoral umpire, must remain apolitical and independent.

The supporters who marched to Aba road from GRA junction to waterlines are asking the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a joint inspection of political parties on its documents and not allow just one political party to inspect the materials.

The supports were seen carrying different inscriptions like: “PDP demand the CTC of all results from INEC;” “Save our mandate, give us our mandate INEC.”

Speaking with the Guardian, one of the Protesters, Ikechi Worlu, said: “They said no amount of interference or threats can change the mandate freely given to us by the good people of Rivers State.

“The PDP in Rivers State must be treated fairly in the just concluded general elections because we won massively and convincingly.

“So we demand a genuine copy of the 2023 results in hard copy and on IReV. Democracy must be protected and preserved in Rivers State.”

However, this is not unconnected after a visit by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) in the last election, Tonye Cole on Friday, demanding the INEC to allow the party access to the Certified True Copy of the election result and materials.
