SDGs forum urges FG to align policies with multi-dimensional poverty index
Economic experts at a High Level Forum on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have called on the Federal Government to align policies and interventions with multi-dimensional poverty index.
Speaking during a session at the 28th Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG 28) in Abuja, yesterday, the experts noted that for Nigeria to make headway in its attempt to reduce poverty, multi-dimensional poverty index must be looked into and aligned with policies that impact citizens.
Statistician General of the Federation and Chief Executive Officer of National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Mr. Adeyemi Adeniran, noted that the National Poverty Index (NPI) would help government to unify ministries, departments and agencies and address issues in different sectors, such as gender inequality index, and the proportion of impoverished youths.
Sadiq Usman, Director of Flour Mills Nigeria, blamed multi-dimensional poverty in Nigeria on global forces, such as Russia-Ukraine war, which he said has affected global market and commodities, resulting in food insecurity.
