Senate committee chairman encourages global investors in Nigeria’s solid minerals sector

Senator Osita Ngwu, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Solid Minerals, has called on global investors to take advantage of favorable regulations in Nigeria’s solid minerals sector. He emphasized that Nigeria provides a friendly investment climate supported by legislation that safeguards local and foreign direct investments.

During a visit to the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Senator Ngwu described Nigeria as an investment destination with numerous opportunities in the solid minerals sector. He encouraged investors to explore mining exploration and development in Nigeria.

Additionally, he highlighted the potential for investment in mineral processing and value addition and suggested that Nigerian and Chinese investors could establish processing plants to add value to raw materials.

Senator Ngwu emphasized the importance of infrastructure in supporting the growth of the solid minerals industry. He encouraged Chinese investors to invest in the construction and maintenance of transport networks, such as roads, railways, and ports, to facilitate efficient mineral transportation.

He also stressed the importance of technology and innovation, suggesting that partnerships between China and Nigeria could promote technology transfer in the mining sector. Capacity building and skills development were highlighted as vital aspects of professional development in mining.

Senator Ngwu assured the Ambassador of the Nigerian government’s willingness to provide legislative support for creating a conducive investment environment in the solid minerals sector.

In response, Ambassador Jianchun expressed China’s commitment to working together with Nigeria to achieve a sustainable and prosperous economy, particularly in the solid minerals sector. He highlighted efforts to ensure that Chinese immigrants involved in mining in Nigeria have properly registered licenses and expressed a commitment to support Nigeria with advanced technology for mining.

Ambassador Jianchun also addressed security concerns and the formation of the Mining Chinese Federation, aimed at promoting the mining industry in Nigeria.

This exchange underscores the potential for collaboration and investment in Nigeria’s solid minerals sector and reflects a broader effort to foster economic growth and development through partnerships with international investors.
