The Senate Committee on Army has expressed deep sorrow over the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, former Director of Defence Information, describing his passing as a significant loss to Nigeria’s security community.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Committee, through its Chairman, Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, said the late senior officer was abducted alongside his wife on 30 May 2026 along the Katsina–Matazu road before news of his death was confirmed.
The Committee noted that Major General Abubakar served the nation with distinction during his military career and remained a respected voice in defence and security discourse after retirement. It described him as a disciplined officer whose contributions to national security communication and military service left a lasting imprint.
Condolences were extended to his family, colleagues in the Nigerian Army, and the people of Batsari Local Government Area in Katsina State.
The lawmakers prayed for the repose of his soul and asked Almighty Allah to grant him Aljannah Firdaus, while also wishing his family strength in this period of grief.
The Committee reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with security agencies and the executive arm of government to improve national security and protect lives and property across the country.
