Senate panel backs ECO2RUPPERS Africa’s $200b Greennovation finance push

The Senate Committee on Ecology and Climate has thrown its weight behind ongoing efforts by ECO2RUPPERS Africa Initiative to mobilise $200 billion in annual Greennovation finance and catalyse 54 million green jobs across the continent.

The move is part of activities lined up to celebrate International Youth Day 2025, themed “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond,” which spotlights the unprecedented momentum African youth are building in climate innovation, local sustainability solutions, and economic transformation.

Senator Seriake Dickson, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Ecology and Climate Change, noted that the initiative would be of immense benefit to the teeming population of youths on the continent.

He said, “African youth are ready to lead—what they need are the structures, financing mechanisms, and policy support to scale their actions. We must move from climate talk to climate action—and that means putting local actors in the driver’s seat. As lawmakers, we have a duty to make youth-focused Greennovation finance not just a possibility, but a national and continental priority.”

Senator Ireti Heebah Kingibe, Deputy Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Ecology and Climate Change, called for a platform that ensures youth are no longer at the margins of climate finance, but at the very centre of its logic and leadership.

She added that the Senate legislative vision aligns with the goals of ECO2RUPPERS because it sees the urgency of empowering local solutions.

On his part, Mr. Donbabar, Chief Executive Officer of Crea82Green Africa, acknowledged that Africa’s youth is the continent’s most valuable renewable resource.

“By connecting their creativity and Econnovation with climate finance, local leadership opportunities, and platforms to innovate, we are not just solving problems—we are building new futures, designed by and for young Africans,” he said.

For Mr. Victor Wilkinson Agih, Global Director of the ECO2RUPPERS Africa Program, Greennovation is about more than green projects; it is about unlocking the power of ideas, communities, and capital to work together for justice, dignity, and sustainability.

With only five years left to the 2030 deadline for the SDGs, Africa’s youth are seizing their moment—not only to meet targets but to reimagine development itself. ECO2RUPPERS Africa stands at the intersection of climate finance, youth empowerment, and regional transformation.
