Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), yesterday, insisted that the Senate President position should be zoned to the region.

Briefing journalists at the Gold Crown Hotel, Owerri, Imo State capital, the President General of the group, Goodluck Ibem, said COSEYL does not agree with the stance of a group known as Centre for Excellence and Performance in Governance (GCEPG), that the region should accept a lesser position. Ibem noted that this is not consistent with aspirations of South East people.

He stressed that Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who is vying for the Senate Presidency, should be considered.

He said: “This country is sitting on a tripod. We are asking for the position of the Senate President, nothing more. We cannot settle for crumbs. We are the arrowheads that ensured Nigerian government got independence in 1960.

“The Senate Presidency should be zoned to the South East for equity, fairness and objectivity. That is our agenda.”
