The leader of Biafra Nations League (BnL), Princewill Chimezie Richards and three others narrowly escaped death following heavy firing from security personnel suspected to be operatives of the Nigerian Navy, near Ibaka in Akwa Ibom State.
The Guardian gathered that the incident happened on Tuesday at about 6:30p.m., when they resisted an attempt by operatives to stop the boat carrying him and his entourage.
Bakassi Chapter leader of the group, Ita Bassey, who confirmed the incident yesterday, said: “They were asked to stop but the BnL and three others refused, hence the security personnel opened fire with a hot chase to a distance and later retreated.
“The BnL leader left Oron for the Bakassi Peninsula and he is fine as no casualty was recorded”.
Recall that separatist militants suspected to be members of BnL clashed two weeks ago with Nigerian security operatives at Akpankanya in Akpabuyo Local Council of Cross River State.
A source said heavily armed militants stormed the town to hoist their flag at about 6:00a.m when security operatives opened fire and repelled them, but no casualty was recorded.
