Shattered marriage: Why Pastor Chris divorced ex-wife, Anita

It came as a shock to the Christ Embassy congregation when Pastor Chris Oyakhilome and his now ex-wife announced their divorce.

When Pastor Chris Oyakhilome and his now ex-wife, Anita Ebhodaghe, announced that they were separated in 2014, the news left the Christ Embassy congregation in shock.

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome founded the church in his native Nigeria in 1987, and Anita Ebhodaghe became an integral part of it when the two married in 1991. The Christ Embassy founder’s now ex-wife led the ministry’s branches in the United Kingdom, among other things.In 2014, members of Christ Embassy started noticing that Anita Ebhodaghe had not attended any ministry events for a long time. Pictures of her were also taken down from Christ Embassy’s websites.

After a long time of silence, the couple finally revealed that they were separated and were seeking a divorce. Pastor Chris Oyakhilome and Anita Ebhodaghe were seen as marital role models to members of Christ Embassy, so they could not believe that the couple would file for divorce.

People began speculating what led to the split, and while the couple remained silent for months, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome eventually gave some insights as to what was up and down.

According to him, Anita Ebhodaghe did not share his vision of the church and that was a deal breaker for him. Christ Embassy members have also speculated if the geographical distance between the two could have played a role in the divorce. While Pastor Chris Oyakhilome spent the vast majority of his time in Nigeria, his now ex-wife was in the United Kingdom most of the year.

The outcome of Pastor Chris’ marriage to his ex-wife

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome and his ex-wife, Anita Ebhodaghe, were married in 1991 in Lagos, Nigeria. Because the couple was not as well-known back then as it is today, they did not have the lavish wedding ceremony as many would expect.
In 1993, the couple welcomed their first daughter, Carissa Sharon Oyakhilome, and two years later, Charlene Oyakhilome completed the family.

Carissa Sharon Oyakhilome has, to a
great extent, followed in her father’s footsteps. She is also an active player of Christ Embassy as she is a gospel singer within the congregation’s music ministry, the LoveWorld Music and Arts Ministry.She writes and sings gospel songs under her stage name CSO.

In October 2018, she married the businessman Phillip Frimpong in Lagos, Nigeria. The wedding ceremony was officiated by her father’s close friend Pastor Benny Hinn.

Two and a half years later, Carissa Sharon Oyakhilome gave birth to the couple’s first child and Pastor Chris Oyakhilome’s first grandchild, Arielle Rachelle-Marise.

Charlene Oyakhilome mostly keeps her privacy to herself so not much is known about her. She resides in London, the United Kingdom.

Life after divorce

After the divorce from his ex-wife, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome has continued his work in Christ Embassy. The church now has an estimated 13 million members worldwide with hundreds of branches all over the globe.

The pastor used to travel a lot to share the word of God, but the COVID-19 pandemic, which began spreading rapidly at the beginning of 2020, put a stop to his trips abroad. Even though most of the world has dropped its coronavirus travel restrictions by now, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome has not left Nigeria for years.

Instead, he has embraced technology and is spreading the word of God through live-streamed events, reaching people all over the world. Among his upcoming events is the “Your LoveWorld Specials” season 7 phase 4. It kicks off on May 17th and continues through May 19th. The show will be available for live-streaming on CeFlix and all other Christ Embassy tv channels and digital platforms.
