Human rights activist and Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani has extended scholarship support to the four children of the late Pastor Hosea Akuchi, of Nasara Baptist Church, who was gruesomely murdered by unknown gunmen on Monday in the state.

He made the declaration yesterday when he paid a condolence visit to the deceased family house in Kasuwan Magani, Kujama, headquarters of Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna.

It would be recalled that the late Akuchi was on Monday murdered during an attack on the church in Guguwa, around Rigasa, in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna, with his wife abducted by unknown gunmen. The pastor wife, who is still in the custody of the abductors, already have a N5 million ransom placed on her head, family sources said.

Sani lamented the spate of killings, as he expressed dismay that Kaduna has been turned into the den of killers. Describing the situation as shameful, he said the state has become a land where people are being killed frequently.

“Unfortunately, it happened to a pastor who is out there to preach peace. Those responsible for the killing should be brought to book by government who is responsible for the protection of lives and property. I will take the matter to Abuja and see how the family can be assisted because it’s the responsibility of the leaders to protect their citizens,” he said.

Responding, first daughter of the deceased and officials of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), who accompanied Sani to the family house, commended the Senator and thanked him for taking the time to pay the condolence visit. “It goes to show that he is a brother Muslim without religious bias. I pray God to continue to protect you for thinking of coming to show love and giving aid to our family,” she said.
