Skills acquisition critical to nation’s development, says Obaseki’s wife
Wife of Edo State Governor, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, at the weekend said skills’ acquisition was pivotal in the nation’s quest to provide real solutions to the problems confronting the Nigerian society.
According to her, the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration will continue to groom youths in the state in on-demand skill-set, especially in Information and Communications Technology (ICT), to prepare them to contribute to the state’s fledgling economy.
Mrs. Obaseki, who said she had always been passionate about skills development as an avenue to provide real solutions to problems confronting the Nigerian society, described the graduation ceremony of 400 youths trained on various ICT skills at the Edo Production Centre as a dream come true.
The governor’s wife, represented by the Special Adviser on Gender to Edo State Governor, Efosa Uyigue, commended the state’s Skills Development Agency (EdoJobs) and its partners for equipping youths with relevant skills to transform the state’s economy.
She, therefore, urged the graduands to recognise the value of skills they were taught and be courageous to use the knowledge acquired to create the needed change in society.
In her remarks, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Skills Development and Job Creation, Mrs. Ukinebo Dare, noted that the graduands were from Edo Innovate and had undergone training ranging from two weeks to one year.
Meanwhile, a group, Coalition of Edo Returnees, comprising over a thousand Edo youths mainly from Ikpoba-Okha Local Council, yesterday passed a vote of confidence on the Secretary to Edo State Government, Mr. Osarodion Ogie, for enhancing and promoting youths’ engagement in politics in their locality.
Co-ordinator of the group, Solomon Okoduwa and Secretary, Mr. Osaro Daniel, who briefed journalists in Benin City, described Ogie as a politician par excellence in the state and Ikpoba Okha Local Council.
The group, which frowned against the campaign of calumny by a socio-political group against the SSG, said: “We condemn in strong terms attempt by some persons under the guise of APC Ikpoba Okha Liberation Movement to drag the name of our esteem leader through the mud. Osarodion Ogie has positively affected and touched the lives of many youths irrespective of tribe, culture, and religion.”
“The Edo SSG remains the leader of APC in Ikpoba Okha Local Council because he has contributed greatly to Edo political progress and we are all happy with him.
“We, therefore, call all those who are on a fruitless mission to desist from it so that they will continue to enjoy the robust dividend of democracy in their various local councils and wards.”
