Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it will continue to deploy the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) for future elections despite malfunctioning of the machines during the just concluded Anambra State governorship election.

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it will continue to deploy the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) for future elections despite malfunctioning of the machines during the just concluded Anambra State governorship election.

This was as the commission said it would present a Certificate of Return to the winner of the Anambra poll today.

INEC said Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and his deputy governor-elect would be presented the certificates at the commission’s office in Awka, the state capital.

INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, disclosed this in a statement in Abuja, yesterday.

There were several cases of malfunction of the BVAS in polling units during the Anambra poll, as it failed to authenticate any voters, making the process slow and cumbersome.

But Okoye noted that despite the glitches, deployment of technology in elections is better than the best manual process.
