About 1,500 residents are expected to benefit from a one-day humanitarian intervention by the Shamies Unusual Heart Foundation (SUHF), which is returning to its founder’s home state.

The Foundation plans to extend its intervention to inmates at the Sokoto Custodial Centre by providing mattresses and other welfare items.

Founder and Executive Director of the Foundation, Dr. Saratu Abdullahi, disclosed the plans during a courtesy visit to Sokoto State Governor, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu, where she formally presented the Foundation’s forthcoming eighth founder’s day and mega humanitarian outreach.

The outreach, themed “Bringing Hope Home,” will combine immediate relief with interventions aimed at helping vulnerable people regain dignity and improve their livelihoods.

Abdullahi explained that the decision to mark the Foundation’s eighth anniversary in Sokoto was driven by a desire to give back to the state and communities that played an important role in shaping her life.

She said: “The Shamies Foundation mega humanitarian outreach is expected to reach approximately 1,500 vulnerable residents in a single day, making it the Foundation’s largest single-day intervention since its establishment.

“The intervention will bring together programmes covering humanitarian relief, healthcare, education, economic empowerment, correctional welfare and community development.

“Planned interventions include support for vulnerable households, women and displaced persons; business and livelihood support; a back-to-school initiative providing branded school bags and educational materials to children; medical screening and treatment; eye examinations and the provision of glasses to beneficiaries who require them.”

Abdullahi stressed that the Foundation’s objective goes beyond the distribution of relief materials, noting that the intervention is designed to create practical and lasting impact in the lives of beneficiaries and communities.

She said the Sokoto outreach represented a deliberate effort to combine immediate humanitarian assistance with interventions capable of supporting longer-term human capital and community development.

As part of the engagement, the Shamies Unusual Heart Foundation presented an Award of Excellence to Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto in appreciation of his leadership, developmental strides and support for humanitarian initiatives across Sokoto State.

The award recognises the Governor’s commitment to the development of the state and his administration’s efforts in areas including infrastructure, human capital development, social investment and community development.

Presenting the award, the Foundation acknowledged the importance of leadership that creates an enabling environment for humanitarian organisations, civil society groups and development partners to contribute meaningfully to the welfare of citizens.

Abdullahi also commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for what she described as notable developmental strides across Sokoto State, particularly through the administration’s Nine-Point SMART Agenda.

She added, “From our interactions and observations, it is evident that a new Sokoto is emerging, a Sokoto that is increasingly focused on development, infrastructure, human capital, social investment and creating an environment where its people can thrive.”

In his remarks, Governor Aliyu, who was accompanied by his deputy, Engr. Idris Muhammad Gobir, and Commissioner for Innovation and Digital Economy, Hon. Bashar Ummarun Kwabo, commended the initiative.

He assured the Foundation of the state government’s support and cooperation, saying the intervention would complement government efforts to improve the welfare of vulnerable residents.
