Sule sets up committee on implementation of new minimum wage
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has inaugurated the new minimum wage consequential adjustment committee for the state with a directive to submit its report within three weeks of inauguration.The 23-member committee, chaired by the Deputy Governor, Emmanuel Akabe, was inaugurated alongside the committee on Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
Speaking at the inauguration yesterday at the Government House, Lafia, the governor said that the committee was set up in fulfillment of the promise he made to improve living conditions of workers through better welfare package.He, therefore, charged the committee to be guided by the revenue accruals to the state vis-à-vis its ability to pay the minimum wage.
Meanwhile, the state Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Yusuf Iya, commended the governor for the steps so far.
He, however, expressed hope that the committee would adopt the template used at the federal level to ensure improved welfare package for workers in the state.
