Sule tasks northern governors on anti-narcotics war
Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has charged his northerner colleagues to identify with fight against drug abuse.
He pointed out that if narcotics were properly controlled, it would adversely affect the survival of the nation.
Sule made the appeal while declaring open a two-day North-Central sensitisation workshop, organised by the House of Representatives Committee on Narcotics for youths and women in Lafia, the state capital.
Sule, who is also Chairman of the North-Central Governors Forum, said involvement of women in drug abuse has worsened the development, due to the roles they play at homes and in the society.
He commended efforts of the legislative chamber, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ministry of Women Affairs and traditional rulers to rid the country of the scourge.
The governor pointed out a drug-free society would reduce insecurity and criminality.
In his address, Chairman, House of Representatives Standing Committee on Narcotics, Abas Adigun, said the workshop has become imperative due to the rising level of narcotics use in the country.
The federal lawmaker added that the hallowed chamber would play its part in addressing the situation.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Aisha Rufai Ibrahim, acknowledged the cooperation of various stakeholders to nip the menace in the bud.
In their goodwill messages, the Emir of Azara, Kabiru Musa Ibrahim and the state Chief Judge, Justice Aisha Bashir Aliyu, urged women to intentionally mentor their children.
