Leading professionals, business executives, industry leaders, professional institutions and other stakeholders are set to converge in Lagos for the Nigerian Professional Excellence Awards & Summit 2026.
The summit, which would be held on Saturday, October 3, in Victoria Island, is a national platform designed to recognise outstanding professional achievement while promoting leadership, innovation, ethical practice and sustainable development.
Themed, Celebrating Professional Excellence for Shared Prosperity, the programme, which is poweredby the African CEO Council and the African Business Sustainability Council, will feature a Professional Roundtable at 4:00 p.m., followed by the Nigerian Professional Excellence Awards Dinner at 6:00 p.m.
Presented by Nigerian CEO Magazine, the 2026 edition is designed to bring together professionals and leaders from different sectors of the Nigerian economy to celebrate achievement, exchange ideas and examine the role of professional excellence in strengthening institutions and creating broader economic opportunities.
The organisers said the event is intended to go beyond an awards ceremony by creating a platform for professional dialogue, executive networking, knowledge exchange and recognition of individuals and institutions whose work contributes to organisational, sectoral and national development.
According to the organisers, the Nigerian Professional Excellence Awards places emphasis on professional competence, ethical leadership, innovation, measurable achievement, institutional contribution and nation-building impact.
The platform recognises that Nigeria’s economic progress depends significantly on the quality of its professionals, from business and finance to engineering, law, healthcare, technology, energy, manufacturing, public administration, academia and other fields.
The event is also expected to provide an opportunity for recognised professionals to engage with fellow executives, professional bodies, business institutions and other stakeholders on issues affecting Nigeria’s competitiveness and sustainable growth.
Speaking ahead of the event, Executive Director of the Nigerian Professional Excellence Awards & Summit 2026, Rebecca Johnson, said the programme was created to place greater attention on the people and institutions whose professional work contributes to the development of Nigeria.
Professional excellence is not simply about occupying a senior position or achieving personal success. It is about competence, integrity, leadership, innovation and the ability to create measurable value for organisations, industries and society.
The Nigerian Professional Excellence Awards provides an opportunity to recognise those who demonstrate these qualities and to encourage others to aspire to the same standards.
Johnson said the organisers were particularly interested in creating a platform where recognition could be connected to meaningful professional engagement.
We want this gathering to be more than a celebration. We want it to encourage conversations, relationships and ideas that can contribute to stronger institutions, better leadership and greater opportunities for Nigerians.
Shared prosperity begins when professional excellence is translated into sustainable value.
Executive Director and Head of the Nigerian CEO Magazine, Lydia Thomas, said the Awards form part of a broader effort to document and celebrate professional achievement across Nigeria.
According to Thomas, many professionals are making significant contributions to their organisations and sectors without receiving adequate public recognition or having their achievements properly documented.
She added that the Nigerian Professional Excellence Awards was designed around the principle that recognition should be associated with achievement and contribution.
We believe recognition should encourage higher standards. The people and institutions being celebrated should represent examples of competence, leadership, innovation, integrity and meaningful contribution. Through the Nigerian CEO Magazine and the Awards platform, we hope to preserve these stories and make them accessible to a wider professional audience.
The Awards’ published framework describes the programme as a cross-sector recognition platform covering individuals, organisations and professional institutions, with recognition centred on achievement, professional integrity, leadership and measurable impact.
The Top 100 Nigerian Professionals 2026 is positioned as the flagship individual recognition within the wider programme, alongside sector and industry excellence recognitions, distinguished professional leadership and selective lifetime achievement recognition.
Director, African Consulting Group, Abigail Stevens, said the gathering would provide an opportunity to connect professional achievement with the wider question of economic development.
Stevens said Nigeria’s changing economic environment requires professionals and institutions to continually adapt to new technologies, evolving markets, changing regulatory expectations and increasing demands for responsible business practices.
Professional excellence today requires more than technical expertise. It requires adaptability, strategic thinking, responsible leadership, collaboration and a willingness to continuously learn. We hope the Summit will stimulate conversations that help professionals and organisations prepare for the opportunities and challenges ahead.
