A gang of suspected cult members on rampage in Asaba and its environs in Delta State at the weekend raped a 16-year-old girl (name withheld) in Okwe community during their initiation into a confraternity called Viking Queens.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Zanna Ibrahim, who confirmed the incident, said three of the suspected gang members were arrested and are currently undergoing interrogation.
It was gathered that the victim was introduced into the cult group by her lady friend who did not disclosed to her that she was to be raped by male cultists as part of the initiation.
However, as the initiation ceremony was on, the police acting on a tip off, stormed the scene and arrested three of the suspects, while others fled with deep cut injuries and the victim was rescued.
Meanwhile, the anti-robbery squad attached to the Delta State Police Command have arrested a four-man gang around Mariam Babangida Way in Asaba, for allegedly raping a mother of three after robbing her, including others in the area.
The police spokesman in the state, Mr. Andrew Aniamaka, who confirmed the arrest of the suspects to journalists yesterday, said the suspects on Thursday raided the nursing mother (name withheld) residence and others in the area, where she was allegedly raped.
DSP Aniamaka said the suspects currently being detained, confessed to the crime upon interrogation, adding that they would be charged to court on completion of investigation.
Investigation revealed that the armed bandits during their operation subjected the nursing mother’s husband to punitive punishment after allegedly tying his hand in one of rooms where he was locked up before executing their evil action on the wife. Sources said the housewife was raped at gunpoint in the presence of her children, who were reportedly ordered to face the ground.
