Students of Lagos State University yesterday protested the death of student union activist, Nurudeen Alowonle, popularly known as Omomeewa, who was  allegedly murdered last Thursday at the school gate.

The protest led by the Students Union President, Abdul Basit Ashade, to the spot where Omomeewa was murdered, shutdown vehicular activities in front of the school gate.

The students, Students Union Government ( SUG) and the National Association of Nigerian Students ( NANS), called on the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, to investigate the course of his death as it may be planned assassination.

While addressing students, Ashade said: “Omomewa is a very dear brother to us and we will ensure that we get to the root of this matter and the state meets up to our demands so as to avoid this type of occurrence.

“That is why we have come today to pay an homage to this place that the incident happened. It is so disheartening to us that this happened.”

According to them, there are indications that the school management may have been involved in the course of his death last Thursday.

When The Guardian visited where he was murdered, blood stains were all over the site, just by the school’s gate as students lay on the spot.

According to NANS President, Ogunsaya Rasheed, the corpse is still with the police, while Omomewa’s parents are yet to accept his death.

Meanwhile, the Coordinator, Centre for Information Press and Public Relations, Ademola Adekoya, told The Guardian that he was not set up but was arrested while illegally receiving money from someone, who was seeking admission.

He said: “ Some staff members involved have also been dismissed. Until his death, there was a case of admission racketeering he was involved in and the report was taken to the former V.C Prof Fagbohun, that Omomewa asked the person to bring some money and described that place to the person to collect the money.  When they got there, Omomewa collected the money,  unfortunately for him, he was apprehended by security operatives in 2019 at the spot.”

He added that a staff member was also shot and that he was not the only one shot which showed a natural occurrence.

He also revealed that the lecturer who was shot has been discharged from hospital and has been on campus.
