Three persons, Akinpolu Ayobami, 20, Oseni Buli, 20 and Sunday Oyedeji, 29, were yesterday arraigned before a Modakeke Magistrate’s Court in Osun State over alleged gang rape of a 16-year-old girl.

The Police Prosecuting Officer, Sergeant Glory Ona, told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 9, 2016 about 8.00p.m. at Oke-Adio area, Modakeke, in Ife North East Local Council.

Ona said the accused were standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and unlawful carnal knowledge of a minor.

He added that all the accused conspired together and lured the
16-year-old to an uncompleted building, where they all took their turn with her.

He said the trio allegedly committed the offence contrary to Section 357 and punishable under Sections 358 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol 11, Laws of Osun State, 2003. The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge levelled against them.

The defence counsel for the accused, Mr. Victor Arojo, urged the court to grant the suspects the most liberal term, adding that they would not jump bail, but produce substantial sureties.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Bose Awosan, granted the accused bail of the sum of N50,000 with one surety each in like sum.

She added that each surety must swear to an affidavit of means, produce three-year tax clearance, two recent passport photographs and must reside within the court jurisdiction.

She adjourned the case to June 22 for hearing.
