President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured the National Population Commission (NPC) of the Federal Government’s support in conducting the national housing and population census.

Tinubu gave NPC his assurance at the National Coordination Committee for CRVS’s inauguration and the National Geospatial Data Repository’s launch at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday.

“The population remains the greatest asset of the nation in the development Process,” President Tinubu stated.

“Collecting accurate and reliable information on the size, distribution, composition and characteristics of the population is an essential governance activity that is consistent with our Renewed Hope Agenda.

“The commission will therefore be supported in the conduct of next census.”

Tinubu, while unveiling a digital platform to facilitate easy census collection processes in the country, also gave his word that funds would be made available for the NPC to carry out the suspended census.

Nigeria last conducted a census in 2006, with the result putting the population of the country at 140.43 million people.

Another census was due to take place in the year 2016 but it was postponed.

The immediate past president, Muhammadu Buhari, had, meanwhile, released the sum of N200 billion to NPC to conduct a national census.

The Buhari-led administration, however, had to postpone the exercise due to some exigencies.
