Tinubu commissions Lekoil’s Green Energy, Otakikpo export terminal

Lekoil Nigeria Limited has described the commissioning of the Otakikpo Onshore Crude Oil Export Terminal as a proud moment and a defining chapter in its journey as one of Nigeria’s leading independent oil and gas companies.

The terminal was commissioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri.

The newly commissioned facility, through which Lekoil evacuates crude oil from the Otakikpo field, aligns with ongoing reforms to boost Nigeria’s crude oil production capacity and drive economic development.

According to Lekoil, the terminal represents more than infrastructure, describing it as a “symbol of progress, credibility, and the determination of indigenous producers to deliver value on a global stage.”

The Chief Executive Officer of Lekoil, Lekan Akinyanmi, commended President Tinubu and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) for creating an enabling environment for operators in the oil and gas sector. He said the commissioning of the terminal validated the company’s long-standing commitment to reliability, consistency, and building lasting value.

Located in the southeastern part of the Niger Delta basin, the Otakikpo field is regarded as a prolific oil and gas area. With the commissioning of the terminal, Lekoil is now positioned to maximise the field’s potential, ensure secure and efficient crude evacuation, and reinforce its reputation as a reliable supplier of Nigerian crude.
