President Bola Tinubu has approved an 18-month extension of the tenures of the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, and the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nanna Nandap.
Under the extension, Nwakuche will remain in office until May 26, 2028, while Nandap’s tenure will run until June 30, 2028.
The approval followed a recommendation by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to address succession gaps in the two services and give their respective boards sufficient time to appoint successors.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu commended both service chiefs for the reforms recorded under their leadership and charged them to consolidate the gains.
Nwakuche was nominated by Tinubu as Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service in December 2024 and confirmed by the Senate in March 2025.
Similarly, Nandap was nominated as Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service on February 21, 2024, and confirmed by the Senate on March 1, 2024.
