Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu, others pay tributes to late Okupe

Okupe passed away on March 7, 2025, and his burial will take place today in his hometown, Iperu, Ogun State. In his tribute, Tinubu, represented by his Senior Special Assistant (Media), Tunde Rahman, said that Okupe’s passing was a personal loss, despite their differing political views.

Sanwo-Olu, who also paid tribute to the late Okupe, described his passing as a profound loss to the nation, saying, “Okupe was a distinguished statesman, a seasoned public affairs commentator, and a dedicated public servant, whose contribution to Nigeria’s political landscape spanned several decades.”

Friends, family and colleagues of the late Okupe also shared their tributes, emphasising his legacy of impact and kindness.One of the deceased’s sons, Dewunmi Okupe, described his late father as a titan, stating: “My father achieved so much in life; he impacted the nation and changed lives.

“He was a giant who left so many legacies behind. Instead of goodbye, we say thank you.”

In his sermon, Pastor Ituah Ighodalo of Trinity House reflected on his long relationship with Okupe’s family. He praised the late Okupe’s life choices, his love for his family, and his humility.
