Tinubu seeks speedy confirmation of six nominees for INEC jobs

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has urged the Senate to expedite the confirmation of six nominees to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as the commission moves to fill vacancies ahead of the 2027 general election.

The nominees comprise four national commissioners and two Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs), whose appointments are expected to strengthen the commission’s personnel ahead of the next electoral cycle.

According to a statement on Friday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu has also reappointed Dr. Bala Bila as the national commissioner representing the North-East.

The president nominated Professor Mustapha Aliu to replace Prof. Abdullahi Zuru as the North-West representative and Bashir Muhammed Umar to succeed Prof. Muhammad Adamu as the North-Central representative.
