‘Tinubu’s reforms position Nigerian firms for global expansion’

President Bola Tinubu

Vice President Kashim Shettima has said the economic reforms of President Bola Tinubu’s administration are creating an enabling environment for indigenous Nigerian companies to scale their operations and emerge as globally competitive brands.

Shettima said firms such as Flutterwave, Moniepoint and Andela were leveraging opportunities created by the reforms to expand their businesses and strengthen Nigeria’s position in the global technology and digital economy.

The Vice President spoke on Monday in Abuja when he received a delegation from Flutterwave, led by its Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder, Mr Olugbenga Agboola, on a courtesy visit.

Flutterwave is a Nigerian fintech company providing payment infrastructure for global merchants and payment service providers.

Speaking during the meeting, Shettima assured the company of the Federal Government’s continued support, both within Nigeria and in its international expansion.

“We have to support and promote our own. We have to make our companies stronger,” the Vice President said, while commending Flutterwave for building what he described as one of Africa’s most compelling technology success stories from Nigeria.

He attributed the company’s growth to committed leadership and technical expertise, particularly its ability to develop indigenous solutions to challenges confronting the African market.

According to him, a major strength of the Flutterwave story is its “ability to solve an African problem using an indigenous solution” in areas including digital payments for products and services.

Shettima said the government would continue to encourage Nigerian businesses capable of competing successfully on the global stage, stressing the importance of strengthening indigenous enterprises as part of the country’s broader economic transformation.

Earlier, Agboola told the Vice President that Flutterwave was targeting significant growth over the next few years as it seeks to consolidate its position as a leading payments and banking technology company in Africa and expand its global footprint.

He expressed appreciation to President Tinubu, the Vice President and the Federal Government for the confidence reposed in the company, describing the engagement as a strategic demonstration of the government’s commitment to supporting Nigerian businesses.

“Your Excellency, it’s my honour to be here today. Like I said, our goal is to partner with you and your team to reason how we can do more to advance the administration’s amazing economic agenda that we have seen working right now in the country. We want to be a part of that positive story,” Agboola said.

He reaffirmed Flutterwave’s Nigerian identity and its commitment to contributing to the country’s development.

“We are very much a Nigerian company. I’m very much Nigerian. Nigeria is our home. And everybody here, as you can see, they’re all Nigerians. Our goal is to ensure that we do our best to help move Nigeria forward,” he stated.

Also present at the meeting were the Chief Executive Officer of Stanel Group, Mr Stanley Uzochukwu, and other senior management staff of Flutterwave.
