Tiv youths task security agencies on synergy to contain mayhem
The Tiv Youths Council (TYC) has called for synergy among security agencies to facilitate restoration of peace and order in the wake of the killings by suspected herdsmen in Benue State and other parts of the federation.
Its president, Mike Msuaan, told journalists yesterday in Abuja, that it is high time security agents worked collectively to restore peace in the areas affected by the mayhem.
Commending the efforts of the security agencies so far in addressing the challenge, he, however, pleaded with the youths to always provide useful information to enable the law enforcement agents perform their duties better and more creditably.
According to him, after an extensive deliberation and review of the situation and their role in restoring normalcy in some of the affected areas, TYC applauded the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, on recent arrests.
Msuaan said: “We want to strongly advise that more efforts should be made towards completely liberating our communities from these deadly attacks so that our people can confidently go back to their homes and continue with their farming activities.
“The recent arrest of a deadly criminal is a clear indication that the Inspector General of Police is not leaving anything to chance in his resolve to restore peace and order in Benue.”
While sympathisng with the police chief over the loss of some officers, the group called on the Federal Government to compensate the bereaved families.
“We also appreciate the efforts of security agencies in Benue and urge them to continue the good work. It is time to work together for the peace and progress of the state, and Nigeria as a whole,” he added.
