Tragedy struck in Taraba State as a thirty-year-old man was reportedly swept away by flood in the early hours of Thursday.

The downpour that lasted for hours came barely a few weeks after a flood rendered many persons homeless in the Jalingo metropolis.

The deceased, Abbas Ahmad Dansoja, was said to have been swept away by flood while attempting to remove a table blocking the free flow of water through a nearby culvert.

A member of the community in Jalingo said: “The flood took him away in an attempt to remove a table which blocked the passage of water through one of the culverts in this community.”

Meanwhile, members of the community have formed a search party to recover his remains. However, a relative to the deceased has urged residents around river banks to watch out for any corpse floating on water.

The downpours, which lasted for hours, also washed away several houses and valuables including farmlands, leading to the relocation of victims to public places where displaced victims of last month’s flood disaster are taking shelter.
