Trailer driver nabbed for hit-and-run offence in Lagos
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) yesterday arrested a trailer driver involved in a hit-and-run incident at Anthony Oke, Lagos. The driver, operating a trailer owned by Honeywell Flour Mill Plc (registration number JJJ 764 XV), was apprehended after hitting a pedestrian attempting to cross the expressway near the Total Filling Station at Anthony Oke, inward Oshodi.
The incident occurred early in the morning and sparked concern among witnesses and commuters. The victim, who sustained an injury, including a broken leg, was promptly attended to by personnel from the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) and transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Adebayo Taofiq, Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department at LASTMA, confirmed the development in a statement. He said agency officials on duty responded swiftly, pursuing the fleeing driver and apprehending him at Oshodi.
According to him, the culprit has since been handed over to officers from the Mosafejo Police Station for further investigation and prosecution. He said: “LASTMA remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all road users in Lagos. The agency will continue collaborating closely with law enforcement to bring traffic offenders to justice.
“Our thoughts are with the injured pedestrian, and we urge all road users to adhere to traffic laws and prioritise the safety of pedestrians and other motorists.”
