Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have killed a suspected bandit and recovered arms and other items during a clearance operation in Ussa Local Government Council of Taraba State.

The operation, carried out on Friday, was disclosed in a statement released on Saturday in Jalingo by the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the Brigade, Captain Olubodunde Oni.

According to the statement, the troops acted on credible intelligence regarding the movement of suspected bandits in the area.

Soldiers deployed from Kwesati established a tactical position along a suspected crossing route and later engaged the criminals in a fierce gun battle.

Military sources said the bandits fled into the surrounding forest, with some believed to have sustained gunshot wounds. One bandit was confirmed killed during the encounter.

A subsequent search of the area, the troops said, led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, an AK-47 magazine loaded with three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a motorcycle, and two mobile phones.

Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops for their bravery and professionalism, reaffirming the Brigade’s commitment to sustained operations aimed at eliminating security threats in Taraba State.

He also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, supporting ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities in the state.
