Truck driver dies in Ojuelegba auto crash
A truck driver was confirmed dead yesterday, following an auto crash in the Ojuelegba area of Lagos.
The accident involved two Shacman F2000 trucks laden with sand and a Daf truck conveying poultry feed with registration number EKY 93 YC.
Officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said a lead truck suffered a mechanical error on motion, while in a convoy, resulting in a sudden halt in movement.
Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, said: “The response team encountered a multiple accident, which involved three articulated trucks on Ojuelegba bridge, while returning from a recovery operation in the Ijora axis of Lagos.
“Unfortunately, the driver of the DAF truck, an adult male, who got trapped during the impact of the multiple collision, died in the process. His truck assistant escaped unscathed. The body of the truck driver has been extricated.
“His remains have been handed over to the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit for onward transfer to the morgue.
“All affected vehicles have been recovered off the bridge to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) office, Iponri, Surulere.
“The Ojuelegba bridge has been re-opened for safe and easy vehicular movement.”
