Two confirmed dead in LASTMA official, driver scuffle

Lagos State Police Command spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin has confirmed that two persons were killed following an incident involving an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and a driver in the Ago Palace area of Lagos.
It was gathered that the incident happened on Tuesday morning when the driver of a Toyota Sienna allegedly tried to escape after violating traffic rules.
The LASTMA official at Okota Roundabout reportedly struggled with the steering with the driver in a bid to arrest him for the traffic offence.
Unfortunately, the driver lost control, and the vehicle rammed into a tricycle, killing the driver of the tricycle and injuring the passengers.
But according to the incident Police spokesperson, two people lost their lives while two children were receiving treatment in the hospital.
“This ugly incident happened when a driver fleeing from LASTMA officials who accosted him for driving against traffic ran into a tricycle,” he wrote on X.
“Unfortunately, two persons have been confirmed dead, while two children are currently receiving treatment in hospital.
“The policeman attached to the LASTMA team was severely attacked and grievously wounded by an angry mob. He is unconscious and currently being treated in hospital.”
Hundeyin stated that Police backup teams immediately deployed to the scene have since restored normalcy in the area.
He added that investigation has commenced into the incident.
