Two suspected killers of businessman nabbed in Niger

Niger State Police Command has arrested two suspected killers of a 28-year-old Hassan Shehu, a businessman at Kure Market in Minna.

Spokesperson for the Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Wasiu Abiodun, in a statement yesterday, said the suspects; Bashir Ibrahim and Aliyu Ibrahim, who are brothers and live in Tudun Fulani area of Minna, were arrested in a hotel along Western bye-pass Minna.

He also said one Abdullahi Garba of Tunga Mallam in Paikoro Local Council of Niger State was apprehended for purchasing the victim’s phone from Aliyu at the rate of N3,000 worth an exchange of another phone.

He further explained that the sum of N524,000, the deceased’s vehicle and two bottles of suspected chemical substances, which the suspect claimed to have purchased from Kano with N700,000  were recovered from Bashir.

He said: “A case of culpable homicide was reported on March 12 at Bosso Division that the late Shehu was invited to an apartment in Tudun Fulani area of Bosso by Bashir Ibrahim, for a purported business transaction.

“However, on arrival at the venue, the deceased was allegedly stabbed to death by the suspect, who escaped with the victim’s Peugeot 206 vehicle and about N2m.

“Upon receipt of the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Monday Bala Muryas, gave marching orders to operatives of the Command to ensure that perpetrators of the dastardly act were brought to book.

“The Police commenced an indepth investigation and operatives attached to the intelligence unit of the Command arrested Bashir Ibrahim and Aliyu Ibrahim.

“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime, that both of them conspired with one Suleiman Mahmud of same address, who was presently at large to tie the victim and dispossess him of the money in his car.

“They confessed that on entering the house, the deceased struggled with the said Suleiman, while Aliyu stabbed him on the chest and abandoned him till he bled to death.

“The deceased was Bashir’s best man during his wedding last year and Bashir confessed to have escaped with the victim’s vehicle containing N2m and later travelled to Kano to purchase some chemical for washing of gold items from the money.”

The police spokesperson stressed that the matter is being investigated, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend Suleiman Mahmud.

He assured that the suspects would be arraigned in court for criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide and receiving stolen property.
